Big Bear Engagement

I was so excited when Rebecca + David told me they wanted to capture their snowy engagement session! We originally planned to have the shoot in Lake Arrowhead but the day we arrived it was dumping down rain. So, we decided to jump in the car, head up the mountain, and make it a Big Bear engagement shoot. We did some exploring throughout the city passing carved wooden bears, beautiful A-frame homes, and some epic tubing parks. It was only at the end of our drive that we discovered a great spot located next to the lake.

There are two things I learned from this shoot:

1. There are few things sweeter than a snowy engagement session.
2. Photographing in the snow without gloves is not a good idea.

The lot we drove into was empty and so snow-covered that we decided to make our own parking spaces for lack of lines. This was the first time I’ve ever actually used my equipment in the snow so I was a little nervous. Fortunately, Canon makes phenomenal gear and I got some insanely beautiful shots! I captured Rebecca and David romping around in the snow, exchanging kisses, sharing laughs, and keeping warm under blankets. Hooray for when my couples bring along props for engagement shoots! They used the blanket to keep each other warm and some adorable coffee mugs with a very sweet message on the side.

The end of the shoot was a complete success! We walked back to our cars with smiles not just because of the beautiful photos, but also for the warm cars that awaited us. Couples like Rebecca and David are the reason that I love my job. They are friendly, have great chemistry, and trust me throughout the process. I couldn’t ever see myself doing anything else. I had such an incredible time with them and I can’t wait to photograph their wedding later this year!
