COVID 19 Proposal in Malibu, California
With all of the craziness that’s been going on these past few months, it’s great to finally see something positive happen. Not even a worldwide pandemic can put love on pause. This is the case for my two friends Evan and Lindsey who just got engaged. I had the pleasure of photographing my friend’s COVID 19 proposal in Malibu. I received a text from Evan a month prior that he had found the perfect ring and was now in the planning stages for his proposal. He knew he wanted to do it in on the beach in Malibu, just south of the pier where they play with their pups- Marty and Desi.
There are two major benefits to Evan planning this proposal mid-COVID. The first was that I would be wearing a mask so Lindsey wouldn’t recognize me when I had my camera out. The second was that because social distancing is being taken very seriously in LA county, the beach was basically deserted. We had about a mile stretch of sand all to ourselves which made for the perfect backdrop.
The Day Of
On the morning of, I left my house early so I could arrive ahead of them and scout the area. Much to my surprise, I discovered that the gates for beach access were padlocked. I quickly scrambled to find another point of entrance and make my way down before they arrived. Just my luck, Evan and Lindsey pulled up to the alternative (and also locked) gate, parked just one car ahead of mine. I quickly parked my car across the street so I could see where they were headed without being spotted. Keep in mind, I was frantically texting Evan during this to inform him about the locked gates. We finally made our way down to the sand after hopping a fence and making friends with some landscapers.
I set up and waited for them to return while they walked the. beach with their pups. When they made their way back, Evan played a special song for Lindsey while he dropped to one knee. Lindsey was absolutely speechless and gave a wholehearted “yes” when asked to marry Evan. I can’t wait to see these two tie the knot!
