One of my favorite things about working with couples is shooting in a fun, new locations. When Chloe + Evan told me that they were open for a sand dune engagement session I knew that we were not only going to be creating some seriously epic images together but we were going to have the best time together and a great story for the books.

Leading up to the shoot I kept looking at weather conditions, traffic predictions, and an endless supply of visual inspiration from other photographers. Because I had never been to this location before and I wouldn’t arrive until the day of the shoot I knew I wanted to arrive early and have ample time to scout. We caravanned the way out there, stopping to get some tasty In N Out and to stretch our legs on the long journey. The forecast for the day wasn’t too inviting, 25mph winds and near 100-degree temperatures were in our near future. In situations like that you just have to plan for the worst and hope for the best. I usually have my girlfriend AKA #1 photography assistant hold a reflector to block the wind for me but given that she weighs less than one hundred pounds I didn’t want to see her get blown away.

Upon our arrival, we were all overcome with an instant sense of being transported to Egypt. It was magical. Throughout the day we climbed sandy ridges, ran down steep banks, and dodged stinging sand. Chloe + Evan was not only open to all of my ideas and suggestions, but they were so sweet with each other throughout the whole process! At times I would be photographing them from 500 feet away and Evan would have his cellphone in his jacket pocket with the speaker turned on. We started off the day with Chloe in a gorgeous and flowy white gown while Evan rocked a Navy blue suit, both timeless and effortlessly elegant. Once the sun started to dip they had a wardrobe change and came back with some comfortable and neutral colored outfits to finish off the day with.

This was by far one of my favorite shoots to date and seriously the most adorable and kind couples I’ve had the sincere pleasure of working with. I cannot wait until their Palm Springs wedding next year!
