European Vacation in Italy
Last Summer, we flew to Italy to photograph a wedding in Tuscany. Since we had already made the trip, we extended our stay to enjoy a European vacation in Italy. We landed at Fiumicino Airport in Rome in the early hours of the morning, hopped in our rental car, and headed out to Firenze. The first three days of our trip were spent exploring this spectacular city. While walking down the narrow streets and along the Arno, we feasted on spaghetti, gelato, and lots of tasty Italian beers.
In Italy, Florence specifically, is known for its leather goods. While walking the city streets one will see endless vendors selling everything from jackets and belts to shoes and backpacks. Other local artisans can be found throughout the city. Painters recreating local scenes are a sight to behold and their talent is just incredible.
San Gimignano and Siena
Following our stay in Florence, we headed South to Tuscany where our second stay awaited us- Borgo San Luigi. Nestled deep in the Tuscan countryside, this stunning resort was home for us for two nights. The staff took the absolute best care of us and we recommend to anyone who is planning a European vacation in Italy.
Breakfast consisted of an omelette bar with farm fresh eggs, a veggie and fruit juice bar, and daily-made pastries that knocked our socks off. Two major towns were located just a short drive away from where we were staying- San Gimignano and Siena. San Gimigano was at the top of our list of places to visit during our trip. This 800-year-old walled medieval town sits atop a hills and boasts 360 degree Tuscan views.
Nicknamed the medieval Manhattan, San Gimignano is known for its towers that are spread throughout the town. With classic architecture, absolutely incredible food, and unparalled views, we could have wandered around forever.
The next stop on our trip was the town of Siena. Most famous for their food, narrow streets, and the famous bi-annual Palio, this town is just overflowing with things to do. It just so happened that our visit would coincide with the famous Palio. This event, dating back to the 1600’s is the most important event that takes place in Siena. Ten riders, each representing a different city ward, ride horses bareback in the city center for three laps.
It is absolutely something one must experience in their lifetime.
Rome
Ah, Rome. Where do we even begin with this spectacular city. Filled with a seemingly endless list of landmarks to visit, we only just scratched the surface of this magical place. Only having a day here to explore before our flight home, we saw as much as we possibly could in 24 hours. The great coliseum was at the top of the list, followed by the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, and Altar of the Fatherland.
Needless to say, all of the walking and exploring certainly gave us quite the appetite. Fortunately, we just so happened to be surrounded by some of the most excellent restaurants in the world. For ten days straight we were in pasta, pizza, and truffle heaven!
On the morning that we were set to head home, I woke up before sunrise to capture the sleeping city, before the streets were overrun with people. There’s just something about that warm light from sunrise and a quiet city that’s just magical.
Borgo Santo Pietro
One venue in particular that was a must during the trip was Borgo Santo Pietro. This five star estate is truly a dream come true. They havean infinity pool, suites fit for royalty, lush gardens, and a spa that I could die happy in. We spent the first few hours of hour visit exploring the seemingly endless grounds. They have an organic farm that is absolutely mind blowing- not to mention their vineyard and culinary gardens. This property is truly like something out of a fairy tale.
We stopped into their restaurant, Trattoria Sull’Albero which hands down serves the best prosciutto pizza I’ve ever eaten. After a mild food coma, we continued our tour inside the property’s 13th century villa.
Amalfi Coast
One of our last stops on our trip was to visit the infamous Amalfi Coast. We stayed in Serrano, ja quaint little town just a short drive from the town of Positano. No one told us that parking a car in Positano is a hopeful wish. We left our rental at the top of the hill upon arriving and made our way down via a series of steep, narrow steps. After about a mile of descending, we finally made it.
The narrow streets were fulls of tourists and vendors who were selling their goods. The buildings in the town are almost overlapping one another, similar to Santorini. This place really exudes relation to whoever visits. Being there makes you want just kick back with an aperol spritz on your hand and your feet up. We (slowly) headed back up to the car after a relaxing lunch to visit our next destination: Villa Cimbrone in Ravello.
Villa Cimbrone
I knew before even leaving for Italy that we absolutely had to visit this iconic hotel. Villa Cimbrone is perched atop the Amalfi Coastline overlooking the Mediterranean and has been around since the 11th century. This venue contains the iconic Terrazzo dell’lnfinito (perfect for cocktail hour) and an ancient crpyt that hosts the most beautiful wedding reception you’ve ever seen.
We had the most wonderful time visiting this beautiful country and we can’t wait to return for our next adventure!

Romantic Topanga Canyon Engagement Session in the Malibu Hills
This Topanga Canyon engagement session in the Malibu Hills captures the sweeping mountain landscapes and golden California light that make Malibu one of the most beautiful places for engagement photos.
We started 2021 with a bang and met with Brittany and Ryan to capture their Topanga Canyon engagement shoot. We tossed ideas around to find something that fit their style as well as the vibe they were for. They rented a cabin for the weekend that doubled as a romantic getaway for Brittany’s birthday and our shoot location.
While the two prepared their outfits and unloaded their pup, Bentley, and I methodically walked the property looking for beautiful light. Brittany stepped out of the cabin, rocking an open-back white satin dress paired with white open-toe heels. Meanwhile, Ryan donned a cuffed-sleeved white button-up, navy trousers, and a pair of deep brown leather chukka boots.
The trick to capturing the natural moments and expressions of my couples is to just let them be themselves. Rather than posing them, I’ve found greater success in giving direction to evoke a certain look or mood. An example of this would be directing a scene in a movie. Giving them certain things to think about or the act they’re performing results in the most organic images. This could be as simple as walking hand-in-hand, leading one another down a path, or pulling each other in tight and whispering something into the other person’s ear that will make them smile.
We found a beautiful Bohemian-styled hammock that was tied between two trees. This made for a great first location and for the two to get comfy in front of the camera. The two have such palpable chemistry that getting them used to my camera took no time at all. Soon after we headed to our next location and kept chasing that beautiful, golden light.
Ending the Evening In Style
Ryan brought a surprise Vespa for the shoot that I knew would make for some stunning shots. We brought it to a hilltop for the last few minutes of sunlight.
This combination of sophisticated, timeless styles just can’t be beaten.
Now that’s what we call a proper exit!
Finally, Bentley got Mom and Dad back from the day’s activities and had them all to himself.

Santa Ynez Hills Engagement
Jen and Andrew braved the rain and wind with me last week to capture their beautiful Santa Ynez Hills engagement. It’s quite a rarity, but we’ve been experiencing consistent rainstorms throughout Southern California for the past few weeks. Fortunately, the skies cleared and the rain ceased just long enough for us to head up to the mountains.
I especially love this engagement session because Jen and Andrew wanted to include their three dogs in the photos. Couples are always encouraged to bring something special with them to our portrait session because it makes the photos that much more meaningful. I was overjoyed when they told me their pups would be tagging along!
We met in downtown Los Olivos and caravaned up to the mountains to visit one of my favorite lookout points. The last time I visited for a Santa Ynez Hills engagement, the area was enduring a heatwave and the landscape was golden. Thanks to all of the recent rain, we got to enjoy lush, green hills. As we photographed, we chatted about their wedding later this year at Switzer Farm with the talented team at Two Roads Event Co.
Andrew brought along a bottle of champagne so we could celebrate the end of a successful evening. The two toasted one another and ended the evening sipping on bubbly while watching the sunset.

Botanical Garden Engagement
I had the pleasure of capturing this stunning botanical garden engagement shoot as my last session of 2018. I’m so happy I did because this turned out to be one of my favorite shoots of the year!
I met with Hannah and Vaughn on a warm afternoon and walked the grounds together taking photos. As we walked, we found beautiful light and marveled at all of the different gardens. You might even think you were transported to the jungle or the desert because of how beautifully designed each location is.
Hannah and Vaugh’s outfits both complimented each other and balanced perfectly with the natural color scheme of the property. They both looked timeless! These two have such natural chemistry and laid-back attitudes that working with them is a dream. You can really capture magic when your couples relax and trust in your vision.
We made our way through the different gardens, making sure not to miss anything. I always gravitate toward desert landscapes; there’s something about the golden tones of the sand and the colors of cacti that I just love.
Throughout our session, we captured a ton of belly laughs, kisses, and soft embraces. This allowed us to get a great variety in their photos. While we walked from one location to another, we chatted about their wedding plans in Palm Springs later this year and the fact that we live just around the corner from one another. So while I gave them recommendations for the wedding day they gave me a great new spot in our neighborhood to grab bagels in the morning.
We ended the session just as the sun set behind the trees. We captured some final images with the two dancing and an epic “lift and kiss”. I had the most amazing time capturing their botanical garden engagement session and am absolutely giddy about photographing their wedding later this year.

Portraits & Ceremony Highlights
During the overcast afternoon, we captured portraits throughout the estate. For instance, the couple strolled through vineyards, walked along the pool, and made their way to the main lawn, all framed by rolling Tuscan hills. At the ceremony, guests showered Lily and Steven with olive leaves — a locally inspired gesture — as they walked down the aisle. Afterwards, everyone transitioned to a poolside cocktail hour featuring local Italian delicacies, allowing the newlyweds a few private sunset moments.
Sunset Reception & Al Fresco Dining
As evening fell, the ceremony space transformed into a reception area with garlands of greenery, roses, and glowing market lights. Guests enjoyed candlelit al fresco dining, sampling authentic Italian cuisine paired with local wines. Later, traditional Italian wedding cake and late-night pizza were served. Crystal and Ross hosted an elegant Pelican Hill Resort wedding in Newport Beach, one of the most iconic luxury wedding venues in California.
Their celebration blended coastal romance with impeccable style. However, the day also felt intimate and personal.
Many couples choose Pelican Hill Resort for its breathtaking ocean views and classic Italian architecture. Crystal and Ross immediately fell in love with the property.
They planned a destination celebration for family and friends traveling from Houston. As a result, the entire weekend felt like a luxurious coastal getaway.
I first photographed Crystal and Ross during their engagement session in Malibu. Even then, their fashion sense stood out.
Therefore, I knew their Pelican Hill wedding would feature extraordinary style and thoughtful design.
From the oceanfront ceremony to the candlelit reception, every moment reflected timeless elegance.
Fashion-Forward Wedding Style at Pelican Hill
Crystal embraced high fashion on her wedding day.
She wore a champagne Galia Lahav couture gown paired with a crystal tiara. The look felt regal yet modern.
Meanwhile, Ross chose a classic black tuxedo with polished Ralph Lauren shoes.
Their beloved Maltese, Matisse, even joined the celebration. As a result, the morning felt joyful and relaxed.
Crystal carried a bouquet of blush and ivory roses. The soft palette complemented the coastal surroundings beautifully.
However, the most memorable detail was Crystal’s confidence. She truly embodied modern bridal elegance.
First Look Overlooking the Pacific
Crystal’s mother helped her into her gown inside the resort suite. Soon after, we walked to the rooftop garden.
Ross waited among the sculpted topiary overlooking the ocean.
Then Crystal tapped his shoulder.
His reaction said everything.
They shared a quiet embrace while the ocean breeze moved through the gardens. Meanwhile, the resort grounds glowed in the early afternoon light.
Next, the bridal party joined us for portraits.
The bridesmaids wore flowing blush dresses. Meanwhile, the groomsmen wore classic black tuxedos.
Together, the group created a sophisticated and timeless aesthetic.
A Pelican Hill Ceremony with Ocean Views
Family gathered on the main lawn for portraits before the ceremony.
Soon after, guests arrived at the iconic Pelican Hill rotunda lawn.
This ceremony space remains one of the most breathtaking locations in Newport Beach.
The Pacific Ocean stretched endlessly behind the altar. Meanwhile, manicured gardens framed the entire setting.
Crystal walked down the aisle surrounded by warm coastal light.
Then she and Ross exchanged vows beneath elegant floral arrangements.
The moment felt deeply emotional. However, it also felt effortless and joyful.
Guests celebrated the newlyweds as they walked back down the aisle together.
Cocktail Hour
Everyone was escorted to the upper balcony which overlooked the sunset for cocktail hour. They were greeted with salmon and caviar-topped blinis, a cheese and fruit bar, and signature cocktails from the bride and groom. During that time, I headed back down to the ceremony site with Crystal and Ross to capture romantic portraits. While we walked the grounds capturing their photos, the pair got to enjoy their first sunset together as husband and wife.

After the ceremony, guests moved to the upper terrace for cocktail hour.
The balcony overlooks the Pacific Ocean and captures the best sunset views in Newport Beach.
Guests enjoyed salmon blinis topped with caviar. Additionally, a curated cheese and fruit display welcomed everyone.
Signature cocktails honored both the bride and groom.
Meanwhile, Crystal and Ross explored the resort for portraits.
Pelican Hill offers endless photography locations. Stone archways, gardens, and ocean views surround every corner.
Soon, the golden California sunset appeared over the water.
Crystal and Ross paused to enjoy their first sunset as husband and wife.

Guests soon entered the reception space for dinner and dancing.
Immediately, the room revealed a breathtaking design.
Mirrored escort displays guided guests to their seats. Elegant calligraphy from White Lilac added refined detail.
Inside the ballroom, shimmering blush linens covered each table.
Meanwhile, gilded chairs reflected candlelight throughout the space.
Tall floral centerpieces filled crystal vases. Soft blush roses and ivory blooms created a romantic atmosphere.
At the center of the room, Crystal and Ross’ sweetheart table overflowed with florals.
Nearby, a dramatic six-tier wedding cake featured cascading sugar flowers.
The entire reception reflected the elegance of a Pelican Hill Resort wedding celebration.
Dinner, Dancing, and Celebration
Crystal and Ross made their grand entrance to cheers from their guests.
Soon after, they shared their first dance together.
Then the band Liquid Blue energized the dance floor.
Guests immediately joined the celebration.
Meanwhile, servers presented an assortment of mini desserts and wedding cake.
Outside on the patio, guests discovered a gourmet s’mores bar.
The evening felt festive yet refined.
However, the celebration did not end there.
Guests later moved to an after-party elsewhere on the property. A live DJ kept the energy high late into the night.

Santa Barbara Engagement
This dreamy Santa Barbara engagement session has everything I could hope for from working with a couple. I had the pleasure of photographing an incredibly fun (and ridiculously good-looking) pair of human beings that are head-over-heels in love with one another. We had the pleasure of traveling to one of my favorite Central Coast locations- the Santa Barbara sand dunes. From my first meeting with Joanna and Ryan, we hit it off immediately. I loved bouncing ideas off of one another for the most epic place we could travel to for their engagement session. As soon as they saw another session I had done earlier at a separate set of dunes they were sold.
It was cool and overcast on the day we met. The sun was hidden behind the clouds but we had the softest, most beautiful light to play with. The sand dunes were a 25-minute walk from the parking lot where we rendezvoused so as we headed over to our first location of the day we chatted about their wedding plans, favorite recipes they cook for one another, and all of their upcoming travels.
Joanna & Ryan’s outfits were wonderfully classy and timeless. Joanna rocked a stunning white off-the-shoulder dress white beautiful gold adornments on the arm and Ryan looked like he walked straight out of a movie with his button-down white shirt and Hollywood quality hair. Upon arriving at the dunes we were greeted with a seemingly endless rolling landscape that we had entirely to ourselves. The wind was calm and you could hear the seagulls off in the distance. It was pure magic. As we ran around the dunes together I captured endless amounts of kisses, sweet embraces, and full-on belly laughs. They just made it too easy for me!
We ended the session with a brisk romp in the Pacific and then headed back to our cars before we lost the last bit of daylight. I had the absolute best time with these two at their Santa Barbara engagement at the sand dunes and I can’t wait for their wedding later this year.
Santa Ynez Engagement | Vivian + Matan
I recently headed up to the central coast with two good friends of mine to capture their Santa Ynez engagement session. I was first introduced to Vivien and Matan last year when I photographed a mutual friend’s wedding in Santa Monica. We instantly hit it off and I knew these two would be perfect to sit in for a portrait session for me. They have that unique LA fashion sense and just look really damn good in front of the camera.
We first met up and began our session at a lavender farm in Los Olivos. I knew that the season for picking lavender was nearing its end so this was the perfect time for some photos. As we walked through the fields together I captured them exchanging sweet glances with one another, holding hands, and exchanging sweet (or possibly very dirty) whispers to one another. I couldn’t tell which it was but it certainly got them laughing. Vivien and Matan are both naturals in front of the camera ad required little direction. I’m so used to my subjects never having been photographed professionally before that this was an absolute delight.
After we captured everything needed at the farm we headed up into the mountains where we would finish the rest of our session and watch the sunset. I scouted the location a few hours earlier and had a couple of spots in mind that turned out to be just perfect. Following a quick wardrobe change we played around in the tall grass and stumbled upon the most beautiful dead tree positioned on its side that made for my favorite photos of the day.
Guys, take a note from Matan- don’t be afraid to rock some jewelry! Just a couple of extra additions to your outfit can take your look to a whole other level. His accessories paired with the unbuttoned dress shirt and cuffed pants were the perfect look to compliment Vivien’s nude pants suit. With epic views all around and a picture-perfect couple in front of me, this shoot could not have been any better. Once the sun set and day turned to night we headed back down the mountain to celebrate a successful shoot over some dinner and beers. I can’t wait to work with these two again!
